Signed onto a Google Workspace with a transition to cloud-based mail and cloud-based storage in 2018, Opennetworks was approached again for specific support with the onset of COVID19.
The challenge
In 2020 and continuing into 2021, Chas Everitt experienced increased phishing and spoofing attacks. These attacks targeted high-value real estate transactions where scammers were attempting to convince agents, lawyers, and property buyers to redirect money to scammer bank accounts.
The solution
Opennetworks supported Chas Everitt in taking advantage of security functions and features within Google Workspace, performing incident response on multiple occasions to prevent fraudulent transactions from succeeding. A full security audit was conducted. Chas Everitt’s cloud security was also bolstered through administrative configuration as well as upgrading to Workspace Enterprise.
The results
- Loss of hundreds of thousands of South African Rands in fraudulent transactions prevented.
- Greatly reduced phishing and spoofing exposure for the individual real estate agents.
- Higher than average Drive adoption standing at 67.22%.
Literally hundreds of thousands of rands of fraudulent transactions were thwarted using Google Workspace and engaging Opennetworks security expertise.
